Day Sixty-One Photos, Part II

Historic US 66 was my route across western Arizona.

Just in case one missed the sign, the asphalt was marked, too.

Ash Fork was the Flagstone Capital of the U.S.A. Those are flagstones on the right in the background.

The aptly named White House Hotel appeared to be an old Ash Fork business. Indeed, it was mentioned in Jack Rittenhouse's 1946 A Guide Book To Highway 66.

There was a neat little park on the west side of town. The plaque in the center gives a brief history of the town by Marshall Trimble, the Arizona State Historian whose book Arizona 2000 I had purchased in Prescott.

As one who had driven I-40 through Arizona before, I found this sign amusing. Knowing that the speed limit was 75 mph and that many tractor-trailers went  at least 85 mph downhill, I was not about to attempt to " take the lane" on my bicycle on the interstate!

After six downhill  miles on I-40, I exited at Crookton Road. There, I climbed back up to 5700 feet.

This photo looked back east from the pass. The peak  in the background may have been  Bill Williams Mountain.
