One highlight of this stretch was the Crookton Overpass, where the road crossed the BNSF mainline (looking east). |
Before the interstate was built, US 66 had been a four lane highway here. The old bridge for the westbound lanes was abandoned but still standing. |
In fact, for an abandoned road (notice the barriers at the far end), the pavement on the bridge  looked excellent. |
To the west, the twin tracks curved gently toward Seligman. |
Just when I was wondering where I was, these words on the highway reassured me. |
This was always a welcome sign in the late afternoon--it meant that a meal and a bed were nearby. After my longest day of riding in Arizona (77 miles), I was happy to reach Seligman. |
