Day Sixty-One Photos, Part III

One highlight of this stretch was the Crookton Overpass, where the road crossed the BNSF mainline (looking east).

Before the interstate was built, US 66 had been a four lane highway here. The old bridge for the westbound lanes was abandoned but still standing.

In fact, for an abandoned road (notice the barriers at the far end), the pavement on the bridge  looked excellent.

To the west, the twin tracks curved gently toward Seligman.

Just when I was wondering where I was, these words on the highway reassured me.

This was always a welcome sign in the late afternoon--it meant that a meal and a bed were nearby. After my longest day of riding in Arizona (77 miles), I was happy to reach Seligman.

This Historic Route 66 sign near Seligman was a little  different from the one in Ash Fork.
