Seligman Photos, Part I

I ate dinner at the Copper Cart.

While I was  eating, they turned on the sign.

The Seligman Grocery & Laundromat had nifty artwork.

The Black Cat featured a running cat outlined in red neon.

The Supai Motel had an appealing neon sign.

Here is a close-up of the Supai Motel sign.

In western Arizona, Route 66 followed the old Beale Wagon Road. Beale's expedition was legendary for using camels as pack animals. Although their ability to store water was beneficial, the camels did not work out. According to Dean Smith's The Great Arizona Almanac, " They panicked the horses and mules, smelled terrible, were feisty and irritable, and only foreign camel drivers could manage them."

On a recommendation from some guys on the street, I chose the Deluxe Inn for the night. Note to self: don't ask guys on the street where to stay. It wasn't a dirty place, but it straddled the line between rustic and worn out.

My room was on the end, right beside the Santa Fe mainline. I imagined the innkeeper thinking, " If he rode a bicycle from Prescott today, he'll sleep through anything!"
