Carrizozo Photos, Part II

The sign warned people to stay off the " historic rock monument," but I couldn't find a sign that told anything about the monument. It reminded me of the " historic site" in Unionville, AL, that  I had seen a month earlier with a " do not loiter" sign but no explanation. Anyway, I could tell that the monument was made of lava rock from the nearby Valley of Fires, but that was all.

The Sierra Blanca Brewing Company took its name from the nearby mountain. They offered tours and samples, but I wasn't a beer drinker. Unfortunately, there wasn't much likelihood of finding a Scotch distillery in New Mexico.

The Lutz Building from 1917 was the home of Carrizozo Trading Company.  The sign painted on the side boasted " highest prices paid for hides & pelts."

I ate dinner at the Outpost in the middle of town.

This was the south side of the Outpost, featuring " Ho-Made Chile."

The Outpost was famous for green chile cheeseburgers, so I tried one.

That was quite a boast considering how many burgers I've had in my life, but my green chile cheeseburger was pretty good, at least in the top 10%.
