The sign warned people to stay off the " historic rock monument," but I couldn't find a sign that told anything about the monument. It reminded me of the " historic site" in Unionville, AL, that  I had seen a month earlier with a " do not loiter" sign but no explanation. Anyway, I could tell that the monument was made of lava rock from the nearby Valley of Fires, but that was all. |
The Sierra Blanca Brewing Company took its name from the nearby mountain. They offered tours and samples, but I wasn't a beer drinker. Unfortunately, there wasn't much likelihood of finding a Scotch distillery in New Mexico. |
The Lutz Building from 1917 was the home of Carrizozo Trading Company.  The sign painted on the side boasted " highest prices paid for hides & pelts." |
I ate dinner at the Outpost in the middle of town. |
This was the south side of the Outpost, featuring " Ho-Made Chile." |
The Outpost was famous for green chile cheeseburgers, so I tried one. |
That was quite a boast considering how many burgers I've had in my life, but my green chile cheeseburger was pretty good, at least in the top 10%. |
