Shreveport Photos

The All-America City Award is given by the National Civic League. Shreveport won it in 1999.

After crossing the bridge from Bossier City, one sees the First Methodist Church South  straight ahead, overlooking downtown from the top of a hill.

This is a close-up of the First Methodist Church South.

This downtown sculpture commemorates the city's oil boom.

After singing one of his songs whenever I rode through  the pine forests of the Southeast, I found Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly) standing on a corner in downtown Shreveport.

This church was just west of downtown on US 79/80.

Elvis made his national broadcast  debut on Shreveport's " Louisiana Hayride" radio program in 1954. Shreveport named a street after him on what would have been his 66th birthday: January 8, 2001. Amazingly, a city must be  " given  permission by  Graceland" to name a street for Elvis. Funny, I thought it was an honor for a city to offer.  At that time, Memphis was the only other city allowed to use his name for  a street (Graceland is on Elvis Presley Blvd. there)

Here is yet another impressive house of worship, Antioch Baptist Church.

College football fans know Shreveport as the home of the Independence Bowl.
