Mojave Photos, Part II

The Chamber of Commerce was headquartered in a converted railroad car. The small print on the right explains that the Voyager made the " first unrefueled non-stop flight around the world December 14-23, 1986   24,986 miles." If those pilots were like some of my cycling friends, they would have done a few extra zigzags to get over 25,000, but 24,986 is still pretty impressive. That's more than eight times further than my bicycle trip, which suddenly seems short.

For a change of pace, I took this picture looking up. I like the way it turned out, especially the arrow.

There were lots of windmills to the west of Mojave. Judging from the 50 mph gusts during my visit, I think they picked a good place for them.

This panorama  shows how far the windmills are spread across the landscape. Warning: 366K. For an even larger version, click here (755K).

The Bel Air was another old motel on Mojave's main drag.

While I doubt that the aging Bel Air is the " town's #1," I'll wager that they've got the biggest cactus!
