Day Sixty-Six Photos, Part I

California is probably the only state that still uses the old  cut-out style sign for U.S. routes (as opposed to a white shield on a black square).

Many of these flowers grew in the desert along Goffs Road.

Here is a close-up of the  flower above.

As far as I could tell, there was no Goffs Restaurant, just the sign. There was a store, but it was closed.

The elevation of tiny Goffs was more than 100 times its population!

I think this was Clipper Mountain, rising west of Essex.

Like Arizona, California had " Route 66" stenciled on the highway.

The tiny Essex post office looked like it was still in operation, but I later learned that it had closed in February 2002. The Essex market, on the other hand, had been closed for quite some time.
